“I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand, walking through the streets of Soho in the rain…”
Sorry guys, I could not resist! In honor of tonight’s full moon, this short video combines one of my favorite horror movies and one of my favorite songs.
To bring out the howler in us all 🙂

Yes, me too! He was really a spot on observer, a funny guy and an innovator 🙂

We sometimes call our dog ‘The Excitable Boy’ LOL!!

Another great song. And all dogs are, at times, Excitable Boys or Girls.

Yes. And then of course cats are sophisticated. Like the Earl of Southampton’s cat 🙂 I was thrilled to run across your blog btw! Long time fan of Wriothesley 🙂

I’m a fan now, too. But he seems to have been a casualty of the lunatic fringe of the Shakespeare/not Shakespeare industry :-).

Yes, hmm… I do believe he was an ‘eccentric’ (reason why I like him haha!) He did some jerky things no doubt, but I love that portrait with his cat 🙂

If it was his cat. It may have been the artists. I hope the smelly papers I have may reveal all. The thing that interests me about him is that most people who knew him seem to have liked him, and I haven’t found any of his contemporaries who had a seriously bad word to say about him. He’s an enigma!

It may indeed not have been his cat (as the painting was really a ploy to King James to get Henry out of prison.) One thing we know for sure is that he supported Mr. Shakespeare (first one who did!) So he is OK in my book 🙂 I look forward to more of your chapters 🙂

I suspect he may have already been out of prison, or nearly, when the painting was done, but was hoping James I would reinstate his title etc. Which, as you know, James did. Like you, I also think he supported Shakespeare, and at a time when the theatre and its writers were struggling. He may well have saved Shakespeare’s career. Unfortunately, we don’t know how he did this, because the Wriothesley account books haven’t survived. And Gib is so obsessed with his own place in the household, he’s certainly not going to notice a mere player!

It does seem a little bizarre to have your portrait painted in the tower, but who knows what went on? He was Shakespeare’s patron, so we know he helped somewhat. Maybe Gib will shed some light on the subject 🙂

Another very classic song. I think Bob Dylan actually did a live cover once. Considering BD is …sort of miserable… That means something! I had heard this song before him of course, but for some reason he did it. There must have been something about Zevon.

OMG — if Dylan did this I have never come across it! That is funny. I might have to search for that one! There are similarities between Dylan and Zevon though, when you think about it. Both very prolific!

Yes Dylan did it but it’s on a bootleg because it was live. I had a big period where, thanks to a certain website, I became deeply obsessed with collecting Dylan live tapes. I honestly can’t even dig his albums anymore because of how awesome the live tapes were instead. I listened to him perform some of those songs a thousand times. In the late 80s and early 90s he often changed the interpretations DRAMATICALLY.

Really? Well that is quite interesting. His songs are so interesting because they are so open for interpretation.
