I am pretty sure that Shakespeare, in his writings, must have explored every possible personality type. His plays brought a blur of notorious and memorable characters — heroes, villains, wenches, fair ladies and noblemen. Which one most represents you? Here is a fun little quiz for all Shakespeare fans!
Which Shakespeare character are you?
Please post your results in the comments! Have fun 🙂
As it turns out, I am Portia from ‘The Merchant of Venice’. I have no objections — after all she was a smart woman who knew the law 🙂
If you have never seen ‘The Merchant of Venice’ you are in for a treat! This 2004 version stars Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons. Running time about two hours. Hope you get a chance to watch it.
Really?

I’m Juliet… I raised an eyebrow at that, but it makes sense: I’m a rare thing, level-headed, apparently championing love and logic (I would say more accurately balancing emotion and logic; something I have been questioning recently coincidentally). I listen to both my head and my heart, and confident in my ability to find happiness in even the darkest times.

Juliet did have a great struggle between head and heart. Although it turned out badly for her, she stuck to her principles 🙂

Were they principles of the heart or head?! I need to brush up on my Shakespeare.

Well, the ‘sensible and logical’ thing for Juliet to do would have been to marry Paris, as her father insisted. However, she fell head over heels in love with Romeo (son of her family’s sworn enemy, no less!) Juliet pursued Romeo, going against her father’s wishes. She achieved great self actualization, despite the sad end.
Do brush up on the play! It is an excellent tragedy. Several great film versions are available which I could recommend 🙂

Lol. It said I am Beatrice: “Feisty and headstrong, you are a quick-witted force of nature. While you have a tough, cynical outer shell, underneath it all, you are intensely loyal, protective, and sensitive. It just takes the right person to get to the real you”.
This is an accurate description =D

Ahh yes — I can see you as a Beatrice! The quick witted woman of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. She was a great character, known for intellectual and comedic debate, intensely loyal to her friends and reluctant to ever express vulnerability 🙂

Haha. And you are Portia?! I can see the free spirit in your writing! And does that mean you answered the “confronted a sign in the field” question by stating you would respect it and find another way?

Yess!! That is true. (Portia respected, but tried to get around the limits of the law.) I wanted to answer more boldly, but I would obey the sign. I suspect you answered more boldly?

Nice! I answered the one that said something like “pssh, no one tells me what to do, and ignore the sign”. Lol

That was a fun quiz. Portia suits you 🙂
I got Hamlet:
“You are an enigma wrapped in a philosophical conundrum surrounded by obsession. Unpredictable almost to a fault, you balance your intense contemplative side with a weakness for bold (some might say rash) action.”
I haven’t read Hamlet so don’t know much about him. I did have a lizard called Hamlet. Plus the photo was of David Tennant who I adore!

I think David Tennant was the best Hamlet! He did such a great job — a play and movie I highly recommend! Hamlet is the most performed, most quoted and also the most parodied of all Shakespeare plays. Some say it’s his best work. So I think ending with Hamlet is a class act 🙂 Oh yeah, and Hamlet communicated with ghosts, so that definitely fits you!

I watched David Tennant’s Hamlet soliloquy on youtube – it was amazing. I’ll being looking out for this one. I’m definitely into communing with ghosts 🙂

Yes, do watch the whole movie if you get a chance! Other great actors have done the role — Mel Gibson and Kenneth Branaugh — but I like David Tennant best. Hamlet was a bit other- worldly of course, and not afraid of the ‘dark side’ 🙂 I think we can learn a lot about ourselves through Shakespeare’s characters.

Dang! Dang! Dang! I somehow knew I’d be Juliet! I don’t want to be Juliet! I AM Juliet but don’t wanna be a romantic anymore. Dang!

Lol! Oh but Juliet was so much more than just a romantic! Don’t forget — she defied her father, refused to settle into a life of planned luxury. She also ordered Romeo to give her a substantial offer of marriage. (Pretty bold for a 13 year old!) She was really a feminist masterpiece in that sense. She also took a big risk on a magic potion. And none of the tragedy was Juliet’s fault. I love Juliet!
